Remote WarriorResource PortalLEARN / EXPLAIN MY SERVICE
A useful way to explain what we did.
Remote warfare was not a video game. It was a military mission carried out through an interconnected system of people, aircraft, sensors, intelligence, command decisions and support.

In remote warfare, military personnel operate aircraft, sensors and intelligence systems from locations that may be far from the mission area. Crews can support surveillance, protection of friendly forces and other military objectives. Depending on the role and mission, some personnel may participate in authorized weapons employment. Remote work changes where the crew is located, not the reality of the decisions or the teamwork involved.
It is also fair to say: experiences vary. Not everyone saw or did the same work. Some people feel pride, some describe difficult experiences, and many have mixed or evolving perspectives. No single story represents the entire community.

You can describe your responsibilities, the skills they required and what the work meant to you without sharing classified or sensitive operational details. Respect the person's choice not to discuss a mission. For families, simple questions like “What part of your job would you like me to understand?” are a better starting point than demanding details.
